I think it's strange that sometimes you can be in the same spaces as a person- know the same people, have the same professors, even have some of the same classes, but never really connect with a person other than in an "official" capacity. Jess of Jesslancephoto and I went to the same college in Brookline, MA for photography. We started at almost the same time in 2008, but I had gone to community college for a few years prior so we had mostly different classes. I'm also a few years older than Jess and tended to fall in with the older crew and she the same with the younger. I first remember Jess from a photo series where she was covered in different colors of paint and had different things in her hair, it looked like a crown of sorts- her blue eyes piercing out from all the paint. (P.S.- I loved photography school for stuff like this. We had so much fun with our projects!) It hung across the hall from the Studio Operations window where I worked at the college, part time. I used to rent out gear to other students and check people in and out of studios, as well as book session times. That's where she remembers me from, my gig at Studio Operations.
We both got into wedding photography professionally after we finished school and Jess reached out to me via Facebook. We started talking regularly via Facebook chat and have come to talk all the time! It's great having a friend to talk shop with and bounce ideas off of, as well as share in their triumphs and tribulations. I love watching Jess's work grow and flourish, she is a truly gifted photographer and a lovely person at that. We were talking about how we both needed new photographs of ourselves for our websites and so we decided to team up and photograph each other! While our styles are different indeed, we have a similar eye and knew we would work well together.
Jess had an engagement shoot coming up around the same time that we were planning our headshots with two of her lovely clients, Roxey and John. She talked with them and they decided that I would come along to photograph them as well, and we'd get photographs of each other as we photographed Roxey and John. Did you follow that okay? :)
Check out Jess's photos below!
We had our hair and make-up done by Taylor of Katelyn Webb Beauty based out of Dartmouth, MA. Taylor did an amazing job! We chatted and flipped through wedding magazines while we got pampered and pretty!
After we were finished with hair and make up, we headed over to Duxbury, MA for our headshot session followed by Roxey and John's engagement session, photographed at the beautiful Bay Farm Conservation Area.

Roxey took our photo for us- thanks Roxey!
In case you were wondering what Jess was capturing during all these photographs of her doing her thing, head on over to her blog and check out some of Roxey and John's gorgeous engagement photos.
Stay tuned for the next post where I will post some photographs I took of Roxey and John that day as well.
Like what you see? Leave some love for Jess in the comments!
